Joining Aristotle Financial Planning – by Gemma

After leaving my previous role it was a daunting thought finding a new role. I had worked for my previous employer for 10 years and during this time you get to know all the clients and all the company processes well. I felt sad it was coming to an end and was worried about finding the right role. I was prepared for this to take a long time – I knew I was going to be picky!

I hadn’t considered many roles when a call came in from a recruitment agent I had been speaking with. I normally had my guard up a little because most calls had been trying to sell me working for a firm that wouldn’t be a good fit. This was different as she understood exactly what I wanted and she was really excited to tell me about a role with a Financial Planner in Derby.

She sent over the information and I took a look at the website. After reading about the company I immediately got excited. During my interviews I was so nervous, but thankfully I got the job!

What attracted me to this role was not only of the role itself but of working in a small but growing company – there’s something special about being able to see the difference you are making and helping with whatever needs doing. The values of the company and the transparency of fees really stood out.

After speaking with James it was clear that the company values aligned with somewhere I wanted to work and that he was keen to keep moving forward, embracing new concepts and growing the team.

Starting a new job during a pandemic is different, but I very soon felt settled. James had the confidence to start me working on things straight away and this increased as time went on.

All of the things that attracted me to the role at the beginning have remained and what I learnt early on is that James is focused on making the business the best it can be and striving for improvements wherever possible. James’ top priority is his family and that comes through into the business, he considers the business and clients a part of that. James and his family were guests at our wedding last year and his daughter, Florence, has drawn pictures of us which are up on the wall above our desks. It’s such a nice environment and it has the effect on me of wanting to work hard to help the business achieve everything that’s planned.

I have been encouraged to continue my studies, be part of financial planning communities, read, listen to podcasts and sign up to webinars and events. Gaining knowledge from all different areas is helpful for both personal and business progression.

As well as client work I am being involved in the development of the so many different areas of the business which are complete learning curves.

My first year has gone so quickly but I am settled and enjoying being a part of the company. I look forward to what the future holds at Aristotle Financial Planning.
